The plot of the game Dead Island revolves around a tropical paradise resort called Banoi Island. The game begins with the player character, who is a survivor of a plane crash, waking up in the aftermath of a zombie outbreak that has turned the island's inhabitants into flesh-eating monsters.

The player assumes the role of one of four playable characters, each with their own unique abilities and skill sets: Logan Carter, a former football star; Xian Mei, a hotel receptionist and martial arts expert; Sam B, a rapper and hotel security guard; and Purna Jackson, a former police officer.

The main objective of the game is to survive and find a way to escape the island. Throughout the game, the player explores various locations on the island, encountering other survivors and completing missions to uncover the truth behind the outbreak.

As the story progresses, the player learns about the origins of the zombie virus and the dark secrets of Banoi Island. They also encounter different factions and groups of survivors, some friendly and others hostile. The player must make choices that affect the outcome of the game and the fates of the characters they meet along the way.

The game features both single-player and cooperative multiplayer modes, allowing players to team up with others to fight off hordes of zombies and complete missions together. Along with the main storyline, players can engage in side quests, upgrade their weapons and skills, and engage in intense combat with various types of undead enemies.

Dead Island combines first-person action, open-world exploration, and role-playing elements, creating a thrilling and immersive experience set in a zombie-infested paradise.
